Thermal Event: 100S, Open Glider, Electro Slot 25 - 26 July 2009, RAF Scampton New Rules.............. Electro Slot: If you are interested in flying your electric glider at the thermal event, then read on, this event may well whet your appetite for getting more stick time and being able to compete regardless of what Electric powered glider you may have. To generate a more active turnout for this event, it has been decided to change the rules somewhat and make it applicable to ALL electric powered gliders. The rules are as follows:
Model glider - Any Electric motor set up Any Battery Voltage - Any Battery Capacity - Any
The rules will be simple, regardless of what model glider set up you have; be it a slow flying light weight machine or a hot liner......... You can compete. What's more, we believe that the following will help sort out what appears to be the performance difference.
Many feel that the hot liners are good at getting to height, but how high can one go and still keep site of your model in just one minute or less? further more, many hot liners get to height quickly but often come down quickly too. whereas, a lightly loaded model may take a little longer to get to height, but have a better performance once aloft.
Yes it depends on the conditions on the day, but the conditions are the same for everyone. Here goes:
1. Motor run - up to 1 minute maximum but only 1 motor run. (This means if you run your motor for 20 seconds......... that's it. you cannot run you motor any more.)
2. Longest flight (this may be capped to a maximum - conditions on the day will dictate this option. CD's decision) measured in seconds
3. Landing bonus up to 100 points = 100 seconds, graduated bonus depending how near to the spot you land, measured to the nose (spinner)
That's it........... simple rules so bring along your electric glider and let's see what happens. Its more time on the transmitter so if you have an electric glider, why not give this event a go.
